Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council have been working on a new Local Plan, which will allocate sites in the borough to be developed for new homes.

 

A draft of the new Local Plan was published in late 2025, and while two sites in Sherborne St John parish have been proposed for allocation, both of those sites are located on the edge of Basingstoke, not in the village itself.  It is not yet clear when the new Local Plan will be completed, and in the meantime the Borough Council have acknowledged that they currently lack the required five-year supply of housing land.

 

In this context, B.Yond Homes have decided to bring forward proposals for up to 83 homes on the land east of Aldermaston Road, as a sustainable location for new homes in the village.  Development of new homes is proposed in the northern half of the site only, with the southern half proposed as public open space to protect this part of the Strategic Gap between Sherborne St John and Basingstoke in perpetuity.
