Land east of Aldermaston Road,
Sherborne St John
Vehicle, Foot & Cycle Access
Access to the development for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists is proposed from Aldermaston Road, via a new two-way priority junction with a right-turn pocket.
The junction would be located opposite the allotments, approximately 250 metres north of the village gateway sign, and approximately 170 metres south of the junction with Cranes Road. To accommodate the right-turn pocket within the existing carriageway, the width of the north and southbound lanes would be reduced to three metres each using altered lane markings. A three-metre-wide combined footway and cycleway would be provided from the junction along the eastern side of Aldermaston Road up to a new zebra crossing, reducing to two metres north of the crossing to provide a safe and direct walking route up to the Dixons Corner bus stop.

The existing access to the site from Cranes Road will be retained as a shared foot / cycleway, to provide safe and convenient access to the rest of the village, including the village shop. A new foot / cycle access will also be provided at the southern end of the site, enabling residents to walk / cycle the length of Aldermaston Road within the site away from traffic.
Our proposals would also enable the delivery of an off-road segment of Primary Cycle Route 120 (Tadley to Basingstoke), proposed in the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP). Published in March 2023, the LCWIP actually shows Primary Cycle Route 120 passing through the site from north to south via a segregated cycle path:

Once our application is submitted we will discuss with the Borough and County Councils how our application could potentially assist with the delivery of this part of the proposed cycle route between Basingstoke and Tadley.
